Frustrated and time to get other things done...

Last night I finished my second attempt at making a pattern from scratch, to sell...and it was once again an epic disaster - I can duplicate the patterns I purchase, but I just cannot make a professional looking item good enough to sell as a pattern - it is something I really want to do, but I guess I will have to be content to be a pattern buyer rather than a pattern creator.  It made me a bit sour on creating today, so I'm going to take the time to work on some other things.  I need to start packing up more boxes for our move and I just finished staining the top of that hoosier cabinet I bought a while back.  I've been busy sanding it the last couple of weeks and it is exciting to think I am in the homestretch!  You can be sure I will be posting pictures of it when I finish it.

I'm thinking I need to concentrate more on things around the house and packing, so I may just clean up the sewing room and put things away until after we move - we shall see.  I still have bodies to be stuffed...I may finish them...may not right now.  I think I have been pushing myself way too hard to be all and do all...time to recoop and take a little time to catch up.   Too many things looming over my head to waste any more time crafting right now...I'll still be around in blogland....looks like there are several new giveaways to enter and post about...and I don't want to miss all the news from each of you.

Hope you enjoy your day - it's hot and humid here again - looks like a scorcer!  I may even find time to relax in the pool this afternoon!

  2. I know what you mean...tried many times to create patterns but they are never what I would buy much less sell....I guess we need to know our limitations!

  3. Don't give up just have a break till you get moved and settled. If I look at my doll patterns, I see they all are the same body, arm leg construction...And are all easy to change slightly to what I like, fatter, thinner, longer legs etc. I believe a lot of pattern makers do this, as long as the finished copy is not exactly the same. Then it's just a case of detailed drawing, good instructions and a good pic of the finished product. What are you having probs with. I got lots of time to think while my paint and varnish dries...and in this heat/humid it's slow going...

  4. Hi Wendy, Sorry to hear that you've had a discouraging time of it. I think that sometimes the key is to take a break and let things percolate a little bit. Let it go while you have so much else going on and maybe give it a go later. I know you are a talented gal, so I hope you don't give up just yet!!

  6. At some point, I believe all the pieces will come together.....How 'bout some day just pulling out patterns you like the best and found were the easiest to follow, and trying to put your finger on exactly WHY you like them best....Then pick up your efforts again? And sometimes distance, time, and space can do wonders....two weeks isn't far off - It'd take me 2 years to pack up this place!! Maybe your "head" is telling you in a subtle way what you need to do at this point in time....But don't give up! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  9. Wendy,

Awww...don't give up. Just take a break to unwind and get some other constructive things accomplished then tackle it again. You can do it. It may be difficult at first, but you'll get the hang of it soon enough and think what was I complaining about. Also why not ask some questions of other pattern designers....I don't think they got their start without some help from others. Good luck.

  11. Well if it makes you feel better, I can't create a pattern of anything. Just ain't for me. And I can't look at something and just make it either. I envy those of you who can. Guess thats why there are so many patterns for sale, for dummies like me. And even then sometime I have a hard time figuring them out. But don't give up. I'm with everyone else. You may just have too much on your plate right now. Once things are settled down, try again.

  12. Don't give up!! Look at all the beautiful things you have done so far! You've made things I can even BEGIN to figure out how to do. Keep your chin up and try, try again. I know you'll get it. Besides, the Lord truly does give to those who keep trying, pray before you begin and you'll do amazing patterns!
