Mornin' everyone. I'm a bit late posting this morning because I
actually slept until 8:30 - I rarely do that, but I was completely spent
after the last two weeks of busyness, and the weekend finally did me
in.
Friday I spent the morning painting, then ran (well drove) down to
Ithaca to have lunch with son, Drew. We did a little pickin' at some
shops and garage sales. I found a lovely crock, a great metal cabinet
for the hubby's workshop, and some nice baskets. Haven't taken pictures
yet, but will at least post one of the crock. Came home in the late
afternoon to finish painting the guest room, helped hubby in the garden,
then put the guest room back in order at night before bed. I'll get
some pictures on soon of the redo before and afters! Still have to hang
some pictures and paint the shelf I got for above the bed.
Saturday we had my Mom & Dad down for Father's Day. We had a mostly
lovely day...I made apple pie and homemade pizza for dinner, but just
as we were sitting down to dinner, one of the neighbor's dogs from up
the road killed one of my baby chicks. I had four of the little ones in
a separate pen outside, so they could get some fresh air and sunshine,
peck some grass and get used to the bigger chickens....the dog had been
hanging around all day with us, and didn't pay ANY attention to the
chickens...most of the big ones were roaming around the yard. But once
we all went in to eat, I think the dog got bored and decided to play
with the little ones, so it sneaked under the fencing and nabbed one of
my beautiful little Blue-Laced Wyndotte chickies. Needless to say,
that pretty much ruined my night and my appetite. I know they are just
chickens, but these are my first batch of babies, and I have taken care
of them so carefully since they were day old chicks...it is sad to see
one killed, and I blame myself for not bringing them in when we went
in. Lesson learned, but at a price. :--(
Yesterday after church, we picked up Drew & Maria and went on over
to our oldest son, Scott's, for the day. It was his birthday as well as
Father's Day so we had a doubly nice time. It's hard to believe he is
27! Yikes...I thought that was MY age! We played a fun new outdoor game
that his wife, Steph's, parents had made for him and ate tasty crab
cakes and some special peanut butter brownies I made ---Scott's favs.
Gave my sweet hubby a book on homestead, Gordon Lightfoot CD (which he
asked for) and a nice religious medal on a chain, as his old one was
getting too worn to use.
By the time we came home I was totally done in and slept like a baby until late this morning!
I hope you all had a lovely weekend! Wishing you blessings for your week.
