Happy Flag Day, Swap sign-ups and room progress.

Happy Flag Day!

This flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation. The choices are ours. It floats in majestic silence above the hosts that execute those choices, whether in peace or in war. And yet, though silent, it speaks to us — speaks to us of the past, or the men and women who went before us, and of the records they wrote upon it.

As you may recall, I am redoing  one of our guest rooms.  Things have NOT gone as smoothly as I had hoped.  When I ripped down the wallpaper, I was greeted with all kinds of wall issues.  I found part of the walls painted a horrid gold, part of the walls had been repaired and cemented in certain sections and left bare.  Still others had repair patches of cement board, and there were other dents, dings and cracks that needed attention.  My heart sank to see all that needed to be done.  I had hopes of just taking the paper down and repainting!  So, needless to say this little redo is taking must longer than I wanted.    Here's some pics of what I've had to deal with so far.

Before - old wallpaper peeling and dated

Yeah...pardon the mess on the bed...it's the price of progress

OUCH - this gold hurts my eyes

Wallpaper covered the furnace duct...I'm thinking that isn't the best solution! It is all rusty and yucky.  We'll be boxing it in with wood and it will look much better when I'm done.
That is the room as of a couple days ago.  I'm still working on smoothing the patches and have about half of the room primed so far.  Sure hoping to have it painted by tomorrow.  I'll post more pics when I am done.  I also found the perfect black/white check fabric for my curtains, but had to die the white to a  tan to match the bedding.  I did that yesterday too, so it is ready to go.  Wish me luck on all these projects gals, this  ole body is mighty tired this morning.     I've been working outside in between drywall coats, and even made a trellis for the barn yesterday afternoon out of boards I found in the barn.  I'll get pics of that on soon too.  I'm so anxious to get these projects behind me cause I've been itchin' to get back in the sewing room....actually.....I think I am just wanting to SIT DOWN for an extended period of time!

I'll be posting the marinade recipe for this delicious kabob on our food blog, The Crow's Crusty Loaf, later today.  Made these the other night and they were so tasty - great for summertime bbq!

Off to shower.  Have a lovely day and don't forget to fly your flag!

Blessings

  6. OMGosh!! Who would have ever painted that room that ghastly gold? Cover it up, quick:) Ha Ha. The room is going to look great when you are done. Isn't it funny, how we buy perfectly good, brand new things, and then hurry home and throw them in coffee, tea, or walnut to "fix" them up? I can't wait to see more progress. Your dinner looks so yummy. We haven't broken the grill out yet. Shame on us. -Steph-
