Kayaking, Memorial Day and the Loss of a dear friend

Good morning Prim Peeps

I hope you had an enjoyable holiday weekend.  We certainly had a busy one!

Sunday morning and Memorial Day morning we went kayaking on the lake and up the inlet.  It was so peaceful and we had a lovely time.  It was Allie's first time in a kayak and she really enjoyed the ride.  Unfortunately, poor Scott lost his fishing pole when it slid into the water at the head of the inlet while he was was attempting to reposition Allie in the front of his boat.

Mr. Whimzie looking quite handsome in his fishing attire and kayak.  He did catch a nice bass!

Sunday we had the family over for food (bbq chicken, salt potatoes, broccoli salad, corn on the cob, watermelon, orange angel food cake and homemade 'creamsicle' flavored ice cream) and fun....gosh, I was so busy, I never had a chance to snap some pictures.

I picked an armload of lilacs - I just love them!

Unfortunately, with the lovely weekend, we also were a bit somber, as the father of our best friends passed away from bone cancer.  The calling hours are this evening, with the funeral tomorrow. We are holding a special luncheon for the family following the funeral and burial.  It will be a sad, sad day.  Guido was such a part of all our celebrations with our friends.  He was an avid high school football fan, and his seat on the stands will be much too empty this fall.

RIP Guido
You will be sorely missed.

Finally...just a reminder that I am still holding the
2014 Spring Doll Challenge...you can find out  more by clicking on the link on the right-hand side of my blog.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

  1. I am sorry to hear about your friend but glad that you could find solace with a beautiful paddle and time with family.

I need to decide what to do with my garden angel. I waited on the wings since I will put them on last, I do have some real feather ones but think I might go with twigs or something to do with nature.

  7. It is always hard to loose a family friend.
Our family loves kayaking! Sounds like J is going to try to get him girlfriend into it, I found a great deal at a garage sale on a double kayak last year and he is going to take her out on the river this week after finals. We'll see how that goes, she's not really the outdoor type LOL!
