While working in the very overgrown gardens in our new yard today, I was on my knees, intent on digging out some of the million and one poppy plants near what will soon be my garden pond....I was lifting under the plants with my trowel, attempting to get deep down so I could eradicate the root and all.......and then..........what's that.............did the soil MOVE.........no.........it must be my imagination................yikes.................there it goes again.............that little patch of dirt that I thought had just settled back down......it moved again...............and now I'm getting pretty freaked out............there on my knees........face near the ground, wondering what the heck and unable to comprehend what I'm seeing.....and the soil starts to really move this time.............UPWARD.........I jump back (as much as one can while kneeling)...............and up out of the ground pops.........A BIG, FAT TOAD!
Darn near scared me to death..........but I ended up laughing when I saw what it was! I thought..............this is a great little story to tell my blogging friends. I went inside to grab my camera to take pictures of the culprit!
The weather is lovely, so I'm headed back out now to renew my battle with the poppies!
I hope you are enjoying your day-wishing you Warm Autumn Blessings!

I'm glad it wasn't a snake. Toads I can handle. Of course, I'm a terrible gardener and wouldn't be out pulling plants anyway. hee, hee, hee.:)

Impressive that you got the little guy to pose for the picture!
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh because I was working in the garden the other day and as I dug to put a last minute plant in I discovered a big toad that had burried himself for the winter-I felt bad disturbing him but he needs to get over it. Anyway, I called my 11 year old son and had him relocate the toad to the new hole I dug for it. Maybe eventually that grandbaby you have on the way can assist you if you run into this situation again!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are enjoying your new home, that's wonderful.
Wondering if you are planning any swaps this season? Let me know!
