Survived the storm, an Anniversary and some exciting news!

I gotta warn you right off the bat that this is a post about one of my children...so expect that proud mama thing to kick in!

Well, the much hyped storm has left us with nothing more than about 4 inches of snow with a crust on top....thank heavens!  Despite the media hype, I was pretty much prepared for a smaller storm, because I am the lucky mother of a meteorologist.

Drew on the shores of Lake Ontario
As some of you know by now, our son, Drew  is in his last semester for meteorology at SUNY Oswego.  It was a dream of his to go to one of the best met schools around, and it is hard to believe that he is almost done....which brings me to the anniversary part of my title.  Today, Groundhog's Day, is the 5th anniversary of his public service site, GrotonWeather.com!

We live in a small community of about 2,000 and he started the site back in high school....using his own funds to pay for the website and advertising of the site...and he still does.  It has grown from a very small following to nearly 2,500 hits last month...and is really starting to take off.  Drew has also been a regular contributor on the Syracuse.com web page for the last year or so, and runs a college-based weather service for schools in that area.

But the exciting news for us is that yesterday he was called by the newspaper from Cortland, NY, just east of us, and asked to do an interview.  That interview will be posted in the paper tomorrow and I can't wait.  Yeah...proud Mama here.  Once the article is in the paper, I am certain hits on the site will go through the roof!  Drew hopes to some day run his own consulting business and it is exactly this kind of exposure that will help him do just that!
He has worked many long hours building up his reputation as a serious meteorologist who concentrates more on the real facts and less on the media hype. We couldn't be prouder of him!
I hope I didn't lose you all there, but I just had to share our exciting news!
Have a great day everyone!

BTW~we got 14" of snow on top of 1" of ice. Power winds created 6-9' drifts! Really really cold today. I can't wait for bedtime!
