Monday, Monday......and an update on my Hubby

Good afternoon everyone.
Well, today is Monday and things are finally back to normal around here.  The teachers are back in school, and I am back to watching baby Allison all day.  My hubby went back to work too, after a two week vacation.
The ground thawed enough yesterday that we were able to bury our sweet chickies....it was such a sad thing to do...and so senseless to see these beautiful girls' lives cut short.  The day after they were killed, we caught the mink that has caused all the destruction, and let's just say that he won't be coming back.  It still amazes me that such a small creature can take down a hen two or three times it's size.  The coop seems so empty.   Upon further investigation, we discovered that our two roosters did put up a fight in an effort to save the girls.  The dominant rooster, Hoss, only had one small wound on his comb, but the other Roo, Telly, suffered the most with several wounds and cuts.  I brought him in and cleaned his wounds, applying antibiotic to them.  He seems to be doing great.  Hoss, on the other hand, seems a bit under the weather, although I have found nothing wrong.  He's no longer 'head hancho', and doesn't roost with the other chickens and keeps to himself.  I am keeping a watchful eye on his.  I know during the summer when our son's dog injured his eye, he acted somewhat like this, so maybe it is just a bit of shock, or he was injured in some other way I cannot see.

We are bracing for a very dangerous blast of cold air and bitter wind chills...The chickens are locked in their coop for now and with the heat lamp above, they should be able to withstand the cold temps just fine.  Their insulated coop felt quite cozy this morning when I went out to feed and water them.

Saturday we got to watch sweet Petie while his Mom and Dad went on a movie date.  What fun that was!  He is such a quiet and good boy....here's a picture of him enjoying Greek yogurt and blueberry puree for lunch.   His smiles warms my heart!

Now for the update on my Hubby's cancer.

December 5th Chris had the tumor removed.  He had to recover from that for the past 3 weeks, not being able to lift heavy things, etc.  It seems so fortunate to have Scott, Steph and Allie living with us, because Scott has been very helpful in chopping and hauling firewood for the stove, as well as carrying any other heavy things, and helping me shovel snow.  I don't know how I would manage without his help.
Chris went back to work today after a two week holiday vacation.  He'll try to get as much done as possible there, but next Monday, the 13th, he starts one 3-week session of chemo.  He'll start on Monday with one intense day, then each of the next 4 days will be 2-3 hours of chemo, then, the following two Mondays he will go in for another 2-3 hours on each day.  After the chemo, the prognosis for complete recovery is looking to be about 99%.  All the 'markers' for the cancer have gone down to normal, based on the blood tests he had right after Christmas, and that means that they have most likely gotten all of the cancer...but just to be safe, we opted to have the round of chemo.
Please continue to pray for his complete recovery, and that the chemo will not cause too many difficulties for him.

I want to tell you all once again how much your support and prayers have meant to us both during this trial, and during the loss of our girls.  Although I have not had time to respond to all of your comments, please know that I appreciate them all...God bless you all for your kindness!
I'm off to work on some new bunnies.....some for my Etsy shop and others for my January update on the Olde Primitive Peddler.

  2. Hi Wendy,

It's 5 p.m. and the temp is dropping, already at 12 degrees, and snowing.

I am so sorry that you had to begin your day on such a sad note. I hope you know about The Rainbow Bridge, and that your girls have been greeted and welcomed by all of our beloved pets. Prayers for the "boyz" recovering from the ordeal.

Each morning when I do my daily devotions I call you and Chris by name and bring you to our Lord. Thank you for sharing the good news about Chris. God is awesome.

    Blessings to you both.
